Mysteries of DWLR

Driving While License Revoked (DWLR) charges in North Carolina can be extremely confusing to the typical driver. Most people don't realize that even if your license is revoked, it can also be restored. You may be able to avoid a conviction if you contact our law offices immediately.

Here is the DWLR procedure, from first through third convictions for driving while a license is revoked:

  • First conviction
Your license will be suspended for one year.
  • Second conviction
Your license will be suspended for two years.
  • Third conviction
Your license will be permanently revoked.

Even if your license is revoked, the state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will allow you to have a hearing before that revocation period has concluded. Just because your license is permanently revoked does not mean you can't have it restored. Especially when our experienced DWLR attorneys at Schlosser & Pritchett are in your corner.

Restricted/Limited Use Driver's Licenses

If your license has been revoked, you may qualify for a restricted, limited use driver's license. Criteria for qualifications depend on the number of DUI charges on your record, whether the DUI was a regular or extreme example, and whether it was charged as a felony.

You may file a request for a restricted license from the DMV after a period of time. If revoked for ninety days, you may petition the hearings officer for a restricted license.
