North Carolina Worker’s Compensation Law
Workers' compensation benefits are available to any employee suffering from an occupational illness or an injury sustained in a work-related accident. Through the workers' compensation system, injured or ill employees have the right to seek benefits for their medical expenses, lost wages, and permanent disability (if their injuries or illness is permanent).
If an employer has three or more employees, they are required to carry worker’s compensation insurance. When a workers' compensation claim is approved, the employer is responsible for paying the employee two-thirds of his/her average weekly pay, as well as all approved medical bills. If the employee is suffering from a permanent injury, the employer is required to pay the employee for that as well, the amount of which is determined by the extent of the injury.
